COMIX THING 2008!

The day dawned white, which was odd considering it was Easter Saturday; through snow, hail, wind and rain we girded our loins, whatever that means, and headed to Queen Mary’s College, Mile End, for the UK Web and Mini Comix Thing 2008 [link] .

This year we shared a table with the ever-awesome ~AaronSmurfMurphy . Much fun was had! We enjoyed what appeared to be a game of hide-and-seek, as a person would come to the table. Their eyes would fix on one half of the table, and engage someone, usually the wrong person, in conversation about that particular merchandise. Then, when suitable perusal had been achieved, their eyes would magically glance off the other half of the table and they would walk on. No matter how much we pimped each other up, very few people stayed to talk to both Aaron, and ourselves.

The first order of the day was to find a coffee; being up at Ridiculous-o’clock hadn’t helped matters, and being cold and wet just about put the cap on it. Nevertheless, coffee in hand, we set up and began to peddle our respective wares.

Aaron had brought his portfolio of work, a selection of posters, his ‘Smoking Thrills’ stencils and a published work which includes several chronological pieces of art, from the dim and distant past right up to recently. For ourselves, we now have five published works to display, and the ubiquitous t-shirt and Kat Hat samples took up the remaining space. And the free badges, of course.

Highlights of the day (of which there were many) included: Snow; being filmed by two visitors for reasons unknown; having our voices recorded cheering and booing for an upcoming Edd Egg [link] Egg production; meeting Weebl [link] again, who was sporting an extra-small table opposite us; chatting for nearly an hour with Tangentine [link] Jodie Azhar ~firedaemon about Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts; catching up with John Aggs [link] Ilya [link] and one or two other people; seeing ourselves in print in the conbook (a joint venture between the three of us which, like all of both our work and Aaron’s work, can be seen on our deviantArt accounts; taking, for once, the Underground to get to the con, rather than me having to tackle London traffic once again in my little Ka; obtaining the most awesome little picture of an octopus you ever did see; and debuting in print our newest comic, ‘Sibling Revelry’, which is now forming the main updates for Two Sides Wide, three times a week! Random shout-out to ~WillieHewes [link] for the tiny comic ‘Love is Sticky’. The parental advisory sticker is merited, but it’s well worth a teeny tiny read-through.
